On the same day Apple is expected to reveal details about its upgraded iPhone, Samsung has launched Ominia, a touchscreen smartphone that runs on Windows Mobile 6.1.
Omnia (a.k.a. the SGH-i900) is equipped with quad-band GSM/GPRS/Edge connectivity plus 3G HSDPA packet-based mobile technology for data downloads of up to 7.2 Mbps; Apple is also expected to announce its next-gen iPhone will run on 3G networks. In addition, Ominia includes a 2-inch, 240x400 display, GPS technology, FM radio, A2DP wireless stereo, Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi, a 5-megapixel camera, and a choice of either 8-GB or 16-GB on-board storage.
At this point, Ominia is available only in Korea. A global rollout will come post-Q3, according to Samsung.
