Apple is tacking on 60 days of free service to MobileMe accounts to thank users for their patience since the service's shaky start in July.

extended users' accounts by 30 days -- one week after the service first launched along with the iPhone 3G, which Apple CEO Steve Jobs has since described as a mistake. MobileMe's launch was fraught with such difficulties as users not being able to access e-mail, a large initial downtime, issues related to syncing and more.

"The transition from .Mac to MobileMe was rockier than we had hoped. While we are making a lot of improvements, the MobileMe service is still not up to our standards. We are extending subscriptions 60-days free of charge to express appreciation for our members’ patience as we continue to improve the service," the company states on its support site.
