Salesforce Buys Software Maker InStranet
Wednesday, August 20, 2008
By bMighty.com Staff
Expanding beyond its CRM roots, SaaS leader Salesforce.com has announced the $31.5 million acquisition of InStranet, which specializes in call-center software.
Chicago-based InStranet was co-founded in 1999 by two former Business Objects executives. Its Dimensions software is designed to help customers at self-service Web portals, and customer-service agents, get better and faster answers to their questions. The software is based on multidimensional data cubes that categorize customer information to yield more relevant results.
Salesforce said it plans to make InStranet's software available as a service, while still maintaining support for on-premises installations. The new offering will be called Salesforce.com Knowledge Base. Plans also call for InStranet's 44 employees to join Salesforce.
