Diddy Done It

Posted by Fredric Paul Monday, Jul 30, 2007, 06:21 PM ET

According to McNewspaper, rap impresario Diddy is using online video to hire his next assistant.

Publicity stunt?

Bet on it.

But still, there may be a trend here that "real" small and mid-size businesses can pick up one.

Apparently, there are now some 4,000 video resumes on YouTube. And there are new sites devoted just to employment videos.

Sounds good, as you can learn a lot from a video. But be careful. Some of what you learn may relate to non-discrimination laws. Potentially, and perhaps subconsciously, employers could hire and reject based on protected categories that might not be clear in printed resume but hard to miss to in a video.
