New TrustedSource Threat Portal Shows You Where The Bad Stuff Is

Posted by Keith Ferrell Tuesday, Nov 27, 2007, 03:53 PM ET

The latest update of Secure Computing's TrustedSource.org threat intelligence portal goes live today -- and provides a frightening look at the threat environment we live and work in.

The new TrustedSource portal gives a rolling, constantly updated look at everything from top spam- and phish-sending nations, IPs and domains to a scary look at zombie machine locations to an informative and comprehensive library of top malware.

A query-bar lets you enter IP addresses, urls, CIDR range or domain names for a snapshot of their Web reputation.

Of particular interest to small and midsize businesses is the Phish Registry, a free service that monitors attempts to copy Web site content. This one's worth a close look if you have any concerns about your site being copied by crooks.

The data on which the info is based comes from Secure Computing's research based on its own gateways. The company's marketing of its own security services is fairly restrained on the portal -- an ROI calculator promises to show the percentage of spam TrustedSource could block, based on parameters you enter for your company.

TrustedSource has done a nice job on the portal's refit; information is clearly presented, screens are mostly uncluttered, navigation is simple and straightforward -- leaving visitors more time to be scared by the volume of threats presented there.
