Paglo is launching the beta version of its search engine for IT and its ability to let IT departments search and get information about their networks and the devices on it just might mean a few less headaches.

Paglo calls its IT search engine "the world's first" and it is designed for use in IT networks with 50 and more users. According to the company's release: "The easy-to-use service enables users to discover and index all of their IT data and get instant answers to computer, network, and user questions. More than 900 companies are already using Paglo as part of the company's early access program."

The concept is incredibly cool and right now is still free. The search engine's crawler gives IT guys quick information about the status of their network.

bMighty quoted Paglo founder and CEO Brian de Haaff who described the service this way: "We complement any systems that you already have in place. Paglo gives you the ability to proactively answer questions about computers, networks, and users before something catches on fire. It can be used as a network management tool. It also can be used as an operations, security, or audit tool as well. But at the core of Paglo, we discover information, index it, and give you the ability to search it."

IT administrators in small and midsize businesses don't have it easy these days -- with all the devices their employees are throwing on the network (thank you iPhone) and employees working from anywhere and everywhere -- but a search engine that can give you information about your network might make the going less tough. (Did I mention it's still free?)

CNET's Harrison Hoffman reviewed Paglo's search engine back in November and liked what he saw: "Paglo is concentrating on delivering a quality, free product for now but will most likely be adding additional premium functionality in the future for a price. It's nice to see Paglo bringing IT into the Web 2.0 realm. Hopefully it will gain enough traction to grow into an essential tool."

For today's beta launch Hoffman took a second look and was very excited about an additional functionality called Paglo share-its. He writes: "Share-its allow Paglo users to share their searches, dashboards, and alerts with other Paglo users. Theoretically, Share-its will eliminate the need for every IT person to create their own solution to the same problem. For example, if a new security exploit is found in a certain version of Flash, someone in the Paglo community might create a Share-it to identify the devices in the network that are at risk and need to be patched. Perhaps another Paglo user collaborates and improves upon this Share-it and creates an even better solution. Now, the entire community benefits from what they can collectively solve. Paglo is calling this "social solving" and I think that it could be a very powerful asset."
