Workday Wins Industry's Biggest SaaS Deal

Posted by Gayle Kesten Wednesday, May 14, 2008, 10:00 AM ET

The benefits of software-as-a-service are clearly moving upstream: Workday has been tapped by electronics company Flextronics for its on-demand human resources software in what marks the industry's (and company's) biggest SaaS deal to date.

Walnut Creek, Calif.-based Workday, founded three years ago by former PeopleSoft CEO Dave Duffield, will replace around 80 HR systems Flextronics has in place across 30 countries with Workday HCM (Human Capital Management). Of particular appeal, according to Flextronics' CIO, is the solution's predeveloped interfaces that will let Flextronics link up its HCM service with providers of employee benefits, and its object-oriented platform, which "gives you an incredible amount of flexibility in how you access and manipulate data, which translates into a much more powerful ability to create interfaces with less technical people, and update and modify as necessary," he said.

Terms of the deal, which comes a day after Salesforce.com named Workday HCM its system of record, were not disclosed.
