A couple of quick clicks can help you lessen (but not eliminate) the security risks in the brand-new Google Chrome browser.

Because the Google Chrome security flaw discussed here yesterday makes malicious downloads a real risk, and because users may not even be aware the download is taking place, it's urgent that you and any of your staff and employees who choose to run Chrome take a simple step to keep the bad guys from covering their malware tracks.

Note: the following is NOT a fix; Google is reported to be working on a patch that eliminates the WebKit/Java vulnerability combo that makes the malware downloads possible, but the patch isn't out yet.

The procedure described here is a precaution, one every Chrome user should take:

1. Click on the wrench in Chrome's upper right corner.

3. Check the box labeled "Ask where to save each file before downloading."

And that's it.

Chrome won't be any less vulnerable but you will at least be asked about every download it undertakes.

Now all you gotta do is remind everyone at work about the risks that accompany any download!

And while you're at it, remind them once more that Chrome is a BETA -- unfinished software that may carry more risks and vulnerabilities than (supposedly) finished release versions.
