Crisis Survival Kit: Dell Jumps On The 0% Financing Bandwagon

Posted by Fredric Paul Tuesday, Feb 10, 2009, 10:00 PM ET

In the current recession, buying computer equipment for your company is starting to resemble shopping for a car. When I see companies offering 0% financing, I usually assume they're offering deals on a new Ford Taurus or Toyota Camry. But Dell has just joined HP in no-interest SMB lease promotions.

HP announced its deal last month, and Dell is now extending its promotion from high-end EqualLogic storage to Latitude laptops and PowerEdge Energy Smart servers.

According to The Register, the deal applies only to the company's "greenest" products, including selected Latitude E5500, E6400 and E6500 laptops and PowerEdge 1950 and 2950 Energy Smart servers, for technology totaling $25,000 or more. The Register says these products typically carry a small price premium, but pay for it with lower energy costs. At the end of the 36-month lease period, customers can keep the equipment for a $1 payment.

But just like a Toyotathon Event!, Dell's lease deal is for a limited time only. It ends May 1, 2009.

If the economy doesn't improve, you can bet that there will be more bargains in the pipeline. Either way, you'd have to be crazy to buy anything right now unless it's on sale.
