Mitel's Low-Cost, Anywhere Phone Extension
Posted by Benjamin Tomkins Thursday, Apr 16, 2009, 01:06 PM ET
Mitel Networks new Dynamic Extension allows users to ring up to 8 phones simultaneously anywhere in the world and make any phone an extension -- just as long as it has buttons.
Dynamic Extension embedded in the latest iteration of Mitel Communications Director software, a strategy the vendors dubs Mitel Series X. For small and midsize businesses, Dynamic Extension makes it easy to turn any phone into a virtual extension with minimal investment. Licenses for Dynamic Extension are bundled in 3 packs with pricing between $100 and $200 per user depending on the size of the customer and deployment method.
The new offering delivers so-called single-number "reachability." You can have up to 8 devices set up in a personal ring group -- a boon for increasingly mobile workforces. And it can also turn any phone into a virtual extension -- that's big for any business looking to shift employees to home or remote offices without investing in new communications systems. Perhaps most appealing, you don't need a Mitel IP phone to use Dynamic Extension -- it works on any phone. As Stephen Beamish, VP Business Development and Marketing for Mitel said, "As long as the phone has buttons, it'll work."
Users manage Dynamic Extension from a dashboard interface that is noticeably simple.
Of course, Mitel's hope is that this new offering will add value for current customers and entice new customers into the Mitel fold. As Beamish said in an official statement, "Mitel's Series X software provides location independence for employees, enabling a true ability to 'work where you are.' This allows organizations to leverage and add value to existing assets to both increase productivity and save money. This is just the tip of the iceberg for Mitel's software innovation; watch this space for further evolutions of Series X."
