Adobe Update of InContext Editing Helps SMBs Update Their Web Sites

Posted by Fredric Paul Monday, May 4, 2009, 10:20 PM ET

Adobe has updated the InContext Editing feature of its Dreamweaver CS4 suite. The new version should make it easier for small businesses to make changes to their Web sites without requiring assistance from their Web designers.

InContext Editing was first released along with Dreamweaver CS4 last October, but the new Version 1.5 extends its capabilities to make it easier for Web designers using CS4 to set up editable areas on the site where clients can change text and images without worrying about "breaking" the Web page. It allows them to set editable regions of the site from a Web browser, and inlcudes simplified administration.

According to Heidi Voltmer, group product marketing manager for Adobe's creative suite, the online tools are available for use by clients who don't have the design tools or HTML expertise for complex site edits. For small to medium businesses, Voltmer said, this "lets them keep their sites fresh without having to go back to the site designer." No software or training is needed.

The product is a free beta for the foreseeable future, Voltmer said, but "will move to a paid model sometime in the future."
