i365 Launches EVault "Plug-n-Protect" Appliance
Posted by Fredric Paul Tuesday, May 5, 2009, 08:37 AM ET
These days, SMBs are increasingly demanding that all their technology solutions to be easy to buy, install, and use. Increasingly, that means hardware and software combinations delivered as an appliance. According to Valerie Fawzi, senior director of product marketing for i365, A Seagate Company, that was the genesis behind the new EVault Plug-n-Protect appliance for data recovery and full system restore.
The company got "consistent feedback from the market," that they wanted an affordable, preconfigured backup and recovery solution including hardware and software, Fawzi says.
So the rack-mounted EVault Plug-n-Protect includes a complete suite of EVault Software -- including EVault Director, Central Control, numerous Agents and Plug-ins, and EVault System Restore, and in some models, EVault Real Time Protection. It all runs on a Dell PowerEdge 1950 server under Windows Server 2008.
Nexsan Technologies is the systems integrator that actually puts the product together using its own SATABOY or SATABEAST storage products and Seagate drives, but i365 has committed to being the single point of contact for service and support. Once the single box arrives from Nexsan, i365's professional services team works with the customer (onsite or remotely) to finalize the configuration process. Fawzi says the process takes a single day. One year of hardware and software support is included.
According to Fawzi, the EVault Plug-n-Protect is the next step up for midsize customers outgrowing the company's Software as a Service offerings. Prices start at $35,000 for the EVault Plug-n-Protect Entry (with up to 6TB of storage). Other models hold up to 36TB of storage using upcoming 3GB drives.
