Macintosh Malware + Twitter = Greater Vigilance (If You're Smart)

Tweets from a respected Macintosh evangelist inadvertently contained links to a Trojan horse aimed at Macintosh computers. The incident should serve as a warning to Mac-using SMBs that while their Macs aren't nearly as subject to malware attacks as Windows machines are, that's not a guarantee that nothing bad can happen.

Mobile Security: IT Pros Anything But Secure With Mobile Devices

Do as they say, not as they do might be a good description of the practices of IT professionals when it comes to mobile devices. A new survey from Credant shows that IT Professionals are not much better than anyone else when it comes to using a password to protect data stored on phones or other mobile devices.

The new iPhone 3.0 OS and Configuration Utility 2.0 add several features aimed at satisfying enterprise IT departments. Some of them may be overkill for SMBs, but others will prove attractive to any business whose employees use iPhones for business.

New SMB Storage Options From Seagate And Caringo

Storage for small companies is turning out to be big! So far this week we've already seen three different announcements of new storage solutions aimed at small and midsize companies. After Netgear launched the high-density ReadyNAS 3200 yesterday, Seagate has announced three new additions to its BlackArmor line, and software provider Caringo checks in with a unique "private cloud" storage approach.

Microsoft Puts Limits On Free Antivirus Downloads!

Nortel Sale Portends Breakup, Impact On SMBs Still Unclear

The annnouncement of Nokia Siemens acquiring Nortel's CDMA, LTE assets for $650 million makes it clear that the company will be sold off in parts. But it sheds little light on the fate of the enterprise network equipment business group, which is what most small and midsize companies care about most.

Network Equipment Supplier Adds Another Storage System

Long, long ago in a galaxy, far, far away, network equipment vendors produced items, such as routers and switches. Recently, these companies have been moving into a number of other venues, such as security and even storage. So in response to this trend, a leading small and medium company network equipment supplier added a high-end storage system to its product line.

Tuesday is the day for release of the free public beta of Microsoft Security Essentials, Microsoft's security and anti-virus suite. The price is certainly right. Question is, will the program change the security landscape? Bigger questions is whether or not it provides the security your business needs.

Cost-Conscious Buyers Force Verizon Business To Repackage Web Center

When the economy seemed strong, plenty of companies were willing to pony up for the full multimedia version of Verizon's Web Center contact center service. But now, not so much. So Verizon has come up with Web Center Voice, which leaves out the multimedia, and half the cost.
