Document Imaging, 90 Percent Off
Posted by Jake Widman Thursday, Sep 24, 2009, 02:54 PM ET
Document Imaging Solutions, Inc., is making 50 copies of its DIS-Imaging Enterprise Edition, which normally sells for $26,000, available for $2,400 -- a discount of more than 90 percent. The offer is limited in time and number of sales, though.
Document imaging, in general, is a way of scanning and storing documents in electronic, searchable form. The advantages of such a system is that it eliminates much of a business's paper storage requirements, and the time lost searching through file cabinets and file boxes for paper documents. (For more on the advantages of document imaging, see bMighty's Scanner How-To Center.)
The DIS-Imaging solution is a metadata-based document imaging system that stores PDF files in a database with tags for easy search and retrieval. The Enterprise Edition allows unlimited scanning, search, and retrieval; the only limitation is that only two people can be entering metadata tags at the same time. According to a company spokesperson, that's generally enough for companies with up to 35 employees. (More tagging licenses are available at an additional fee.)
The full Enterprise Edition usually costs $26,000. But according to Document Imaging Solutions (DIS), "due to the current economic recession, our management decided to do our share to kick start the recovery" by reducing the price to $2,400. The price is good through October 15, but only on the first 50 copies sold before then.
DIS also offers a Small Business Edition, which has the same functionality as the Enterprise Edition but is available on a leased basis. The lease, however, costs $200 a month, so the discount price for ownership is the same as the cost of 12 months of leasing.
The company has also dropped the remote installation fee from the normal $1,200 to $600, as part of the offer.
