Let The Business Mobile Price Wars Begin!

Posted by Fredric Paul Monday, Sep 14, 2009, 09:02 PM ET

Firing the first shot, Sprint rolls out new Business Advantage plans that could put pressure on other carriers to offer better deals.

Sprint Business Advantage comprises a variety of different options, but the centerpiece is the company's Any Mobile, Anytime service unlimited connectivity to any mobile customer on any network in the United States.

Frankly, Sprint had to do something. Struggling for years in the wake of its takeover of Nextel, the company has seen its mobile leadership position eroded by competitors who know boast much larger subscriber bases. Having taken a beating for poor network coverage and bad customer service, the commpany is now trying to fight back with technological improvements like 4G networking and exclusive handsets like the Palm Pre.

Frankly, though, those moves haven't made a big impact. What has helped the company is its value-priced consumer voice and data plans, and now it seems that strategy is moving to the business world.

All plans include the ability to pool anytime minutes across all users on the account, unlimited direct connections, and unlimited night and weekend calling starting at 7 p.m. The new plans are aimed at small businesses as well as large enterprises and government agencies.

Pricing is variable depending on the features desired, but in Chicago, for example, a Simply Everything plan with 450 anytime minutes and Any Mobile Anytime calling, unlimited data and texting as well GPS costs $69.99.

Even if you're not about to switch your company to Sprint, the new plans will hopefully put pressure on other carriers to offer competitive plans, so you could end up saving some money anway.
