Windows 7's Official Release Prompts bMighty Apology
Posted by Fredric Paul Thursday, Oct 22, 2009, 05:43 PM ET
I admit it. I was wrong. Almost a year ago, bMighty posted a story on 10 things we DIDN'T think would happen in 2009. We were right about most of them, but it became all inarguable that I totally blew # 7 when Windows 7 officially launched today.
I don't mind being wrong, though. Despite some flaws, Windows 7 is a pretty darn good operating system, and it's a relief to finally put the long Vista nightmare behind us. Windows XP couldn't last forever, and maybe the new OS will help get new computers into more peoples' hands, and that's always a good thing. It would not have been good for anyone if we had to make like Cubs fans and "wait 'till next year."
Despite our shortsighted error, however, bMighty is not stinting on the Windows 7 coverage.
We've got a brand new Windows 7 slideshow covering 10 new features of special interest to small and midsize companies, a Point/Counterpoint interview with a Microsoft VP on how Microsoft is positioning Windows 7 for SMBs, and an explanation -- such as it is -- on why Microsoft insisted on a bewildering array of different versions of its new operating system. And there's initial word that security expressed are not impressed by the new OS's security implementation.
And that's just the software itself. We've also got coverage of new Windows 7 PCs from Fujitsu and Lenovo, insight into how retailers are dealing with the marketing opportunity of the year, and how to know if your company's PCs are Windows 7-compatible.
If that's too complicated, though, I've got a drop-dead-simple rule of thumb. Vista machines are nearly all compatible, and should be upgraded forthwith. XP machines should mostly stay as they are.
There, wasn't that easy?
