The array of mobile devices that employees are carrying has been getting broader. Consequently, DiVitas, a leading supplier of mobile unified communication software, added support for Apple’s iPhone, Google’s Android, and Research in Motion’s Blackberry to its product portfolio.

DiVitas solutions support a variety of voice functions, such as instant messaging, status, and mobile presence, which identifies a person’s availability, location and network. The product is designed to help employees connect with one another on the first attempt. DiVitas accesses contact data directly from an organization’s LDAP directory, so employees can find coworkers with only one click. The latest release of the software extends extends these features to Apple, Google, and RIM devices; the software already runs on Symbian and Windows Mobile phones.

Managing mobile devices has become a growing challenge in small and medium businesses. Increasingly, employees are relying on cell phones to complete their work, however, the IT department is struggling to manage these systems in a cohesive fashion.

The DiVitas system helps because it minimizes the software that users need to download to access mobile services. However, the company’s software is expensive: $250 per device. In addition, the vendor is not as well known as larger suppliers in the highly competitive mobile software space. In sum, companies need to do a careful examination to determine if the DiVitas software is a good fit for their organization.
