Data Breaches WAY Up In 2008; 90% Of Them Easily Preventable

According to a new Verizon study, 2008 saw more instances of data breaches than the preceding four years combined. And considering how easily most of those breaches could be prevented -- but weren't -- my guess is that 2008 won't hold the record for long.

Small-Business Hiring Increases -- Barely

Small-Business Employment Continues To Plummet

The small- and midsize-businesses sectors each reported employment losses that are more than double the amount for large enterprises, according to a report released Wednesday. "As gruesome as the numbers are, they certainly aren't unexpected," said Joel Prakken, chairman of Macroeconomic Advisers.

Monster.Com Loses Millions MORE Job Seekers' Records

Monster.com has been hacked again, with possibly millions of customer records -- including names, phone numbers, e-mails, passwords and more -- stolen from its obviously poorly protected database. The company's handling of the news of the breach (the third in less than two years!) is as sloppy as its security.
