IDC Names Top SMB Vendors

Research firm IDC calls out 16 companies that demonstrate innovation in meeting the needs of small and midsize companies in six broad areas. The list includes the usual suspects -- big vendors with broad product lines like HP and IBM -- but also a number of smaller contenders as well.

PayPal Opens Up And Gets Cheaper

At PayPal's inaugural developers conference here in San Francisco, PayPal reiterated its commitment to opening up its technology platform and backed up the promise with new and improved APIs and significant cuts in the prices it charges to process payments. In the long run, this could mean new ways for small and midsize companies to charge customers and even pay their own bills.

New Survey Questions SMB Interest In Netbooks and Cloud Computing

The results of a new Spiceworks survey shows that while more than half of small and midsize companies are using some form of cloud computing, they're still showing caution about fully embracing the technology. And only 13% of SMBs say they plan to buy netbooks. All this as the Great Recession forces SMBs to hold on to computers longer and cut key projects.
