The original free productivity suite is not only alive and kicking, but also much improved from the original. As the open-source, free version of Star Office, this free suite isn't as smooth, fast, or snazzy (though much slicker in v2), but it does work easily with MS Office files and has a PDF converter baked right in. Though it can't handle Word macros or Excel pivot tables, OpenOffice is free and just a download away.
