Big Monitors

Sometimes size really does matter...

Netbooks are overrated because fumbling with a small keyboard and trackpad along with staring into a 7-inch screen makes for quite a frustrating experience. A big screen lets you multitask without pulling out your hair. You can put your IM and e-mail off to one side and work on your main window at the same time without too much overlap.

A recent study even says that people who use larger monitors are more productive. The research found that people using a 24-inch screen completed tasks 52% faster than those who used an 18-inch monitor, and people who used two 20-inch monitors were 44% faster than those who used 18-inch screens. The reason cited is because moving data between files is more ideally suited to bigger or multiple monitors.

Big monitors aren't necessarily a luxury item anymore, either. While the prices for 22- and 24-inch monitors have plateaued, the cost of a 28- or 30-inch LCD monitor has dropped dramatically. So you don't necessarily need a fatter wallet to buy a larger monitor.
