Nobody needs a netbook, but lots of people want one. Netbooks are the current it product because they offer the power of a laptop in a form factor that you might actually be willing to carry around with you.
Despite netbooks' popularity, though, the form-factor is still shaking out exactly what configurations make the most sense. And that's where the MSI Wind U100 comes in. It's not the lightest, smallest, fastest, or most powerful netbook, but it offers a sensible set of features for a reasonable price. Starting around $350 for a base model, the Wind has a relatively expansive 10-inch screen and 80% of normal size keyboard. That seems worth it's higher-than-average 2.6-pound weight.
And you get at least a 120-GB hard drive, which means you can actually store a documents and media on it. (Smaller Linux-powered netbooks that rely on 4- to 8-GB SSD drives may be more portable, but they force users to make tough choices about what to keep on the machine.)
Higher-end models hold up 160 GB, and include Bluetooth and 802.11n connectivity as well as a 6-cell battery for up to 6 hours of power.
If you need a smaller netbook, there are plenty of other choices out there. But with an MSI Wind, you may find you don't really need a "full-size" computer.
