9 Power Problems That Can Unplug Your Business

Power Failure: Total Loss Of Utility Power

This winter, there have been a huge number of outages reported across the northern tier of the country, and many outages are never reported. While the rate varies by location, on average, Americans can count on 2-3 outages per computer per year. Durations vary from a few seconds to minutes, hours, or even days and weeks. And, of course, power conditions are much worse in developing nations -- like New England.

But even short-term power failures can cause problems. According to Miller, any outage of longer than 22-24 milliseconds will disrupt a PC or a server.

Solution:
That's why UPS exists, to provide 5-10 minutes of power protection until power is restored or alternate sources can be found. In many cases, that means a backup generator.
