There's been a lot of speculation surrounding Windows 7, the latest operating system to be released by Microsoft. Will it be better than Vista? Will it be as user-friendly as promised? And will we see its launch in 2009? Of the latter, we are confident of a resounding no.

For one thing, when a trial version was leaked onto the Internet last month, reviews were mixed, with people saying it too closely resembles the much-maligned Vista. With Microsoft already not expected to release Windows 7 until late this year or early 2010, these recent reviews could send developers into a tizzy, leaving them nervously waiting for when Microsoft plans to release beta copies of Windows 7 at the MSDN developers' conference later this month.

Another reason we don't anticipate seeing Windows 7 in 2009 is that even though Vista has its quirks, users have found work-arounds, and Linux also is stepping up as a cost-effective alternative to Windows, so there is no real compelling reason to rush the roll-out of Windows 7.
