5 Web Browsers For Your Business

You likely already use a particular Web browser, but have you asked yourself why? Here are the five most popular browsers today along with what's significant about them and what the future holds. Take into consideration what you need for your business, such as security, since you don't want just anyone getting hold of all that information you type.

Google Chrome

Google Chrome

The newest mainstream browser in the bunch, Chrome, boasts of fewer crashes and faster Web browsing. The open-source Chrome had a promising launch with a lot of hype (including being announced in a comic book), but it hasn't caught on much.

When you look at the streamlined Chrome, all other browsers seem cluttered in comparison. Google designed the browser to be lightweight, fast, have a minimalist user interface, and resist crashing under the heavy JavaScript demands of Web applications -- and it succeeded. On the flip side, Chrome still seems to be in beta, with missing features and stability issues.

Chrome uses the same Safe Browsing capabilities that Google and Mozilla developed for Firefox. And it protects privacy through its Incognito mode, which is "more elegant" than similar features in IE 8, Safari, and Firefox.

Even though Opera has been around a decade longer and Chrome only came out of beta mode last month, it's Chrome that commands a higher market share among browsers, at just over 1%. Mac users will be pleased to hear Safari will face some competition when a Mac OS X version of Chrome is released, and one for Linux also is in development.
