8 Tech Indulgences To Give Up For Lent

A lot of technology can sap your time and productivity. bMighty came up with eight that we challenge you to see if you can sacrifice for the 40 days of Lent -- and see if your business benefits. While technologies like Twitter and e-mail newsletters have value -- if they weren't, giving them up would be a no-brainer -- they monopolize our time. So use Lent to find a way to better manage yourself.

A lot of technology has a dual purpose. For instance, you can engage in viral marketing campaigns on YouTube -- and you can spend hours looking up old Muppet Show clips featuring Alice Cooper. And while a smartphone is an excellent tool for the mobile worker who needs to stay connected to employees and clients, it can be distracting when that worker reads e-mailed jokes during a face-to-face meeting. These gadgets have a business purpose but then seduce you over to their Dark Side.

We're not suggesting you cut technology out of your life. After all, bMighty wants you to engage in several of them by following us on Twitter, putting bMighty apps on your Facebook page, and getting bMighty on your mobile device.

Rather, what we are suggesting is this: No matter your religious beliefs, take advantage of Lent, starting Feb. 25, to see if you can give up one, three, or even eight time-sucking technologies. It might be hard at first -- you might even think you're suffering -- but when Lent is over on April 11, you can always take some of them back up again, but this time in a more productive manner. After all, Lent is about sacrificing some indulgences and then taking them back up again -- in moderation, of course.
