The Cool Factor: Apple's iPhone

A list of the best smartphones starts with the iPhone not because it is the best smartphone for use in the enterprise -- it's not, yet -- but because its technology, most specifically its touch screen and Web interface, will most likely define the next generation of smartphones. Its e-mailing and texting functions have inspired criticism, but the 3G iPhone, the newest and cheapest iPhone model, might change all that. It's priced at $199, comes with eight gigabytes of memory, GPS, and will run on a faster cellular network than its older version. The iPhone 3G will run on iPhone 2.0 software and supports synchronization of e-mail, contacts, and calendar. Oh, and you'll be able to download all the software you need to keep ticking -- including free business apps from Oracle.
