A Nice Touch: Verizon's XV6900

The Verizon Wireless XV6900 -- manufactured by HTC -- has the touch screen that is heralding the future for smartphones. There is no keyboard, of course, but there is an on-screen 20-key keyboard, a 12-button alphanumeric keypad, and EV-DO technology. All the standard e-mail features are here, but this phone doesn't have an IM client and has only 128 MB of memory. Web browsing is a mediocre experience, but its sharp design will get you noticed. With a two-year contract the phone is $299, and a $50 mail-in rebate brings the cost down to $249. (If you are willing to wait, HTC's Touch Pro and Touch Diamond are supposed to show up in the U.S. later this year.)
